Our Governing Body
Yahya Rawat (Chair)
Yahya was previously a Governor at a local Primary School for 9 years, joining the School’s Governing Body as the school was on the verge of special measures. The Governing Body presided over the appointment of a new Head and changed the vision and ethos of the school, resulting in the school recently achieving Outstanding status, as well as becoming the first Primary Academy in Hackney. By profession, Yahya is a Secondary Science teacher in a local independent school, with an interest in improving teaching and learning through the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Hazra works as a Director for Citigroup, one of the world’s largest financial conglomerates. She is based in the company’s Corporate and Investment Bank, where she assesses market data needs for 35 countries and oversees Citigroup’s Mumbai-based Research and Information Centre. She holds a BA (Hons) in Business and Finance and has gained a wealth of project management, research and analytical experience during her 20 years with the organisation.
Hazra is passionate about The Olive School’s ethos and STAR values and is committed to actively promoting them in her role as a Governor.
Ashraf is an Assistant Principal and holds responsibility for assessment, data, recording and reporting. He is the lead governor for Safeguarding and Child Protection and is accredited by the Home Office to deliver WRAP (Workshop to Raise Awareness about Prevent) training. He is well-versed in all aspects of safeguarding, holding a Level 3 advanced certificate in safeguarding training, and is keen to share his expertise with staff and fellow governors.
As someone who plays an instrumental role in the day-to-day running of his school, Ashraf is in an ideal position to take on the role of Governor. With an MA in Education and an accreditation as an Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) in Maths, Ashraf is able to offer informed observations and tailored support to school staff. He is currently undertaking the National Professional Qualification for Headship, where he plans to further develop his leadership skills with a view to becoming a Headteacher himself in the future.
Saifulla is a Senior Procurement Advisor at the Crown Commercial Service responsible for the estates category. He is married with four children and is a governor at a local primary school. A resident of Hackney, he is involved in philanthropy and is passionate about making a difference through education, charity and community service.
Billahl has over 10 years’ experience of working in the Education sector. He is currently Project Manager at Mossbourne Community Academy. He previously worked in Park View School, Haringey in various operational and strategic roles. His experience includes financial planning, ICT development, project management of capital build projects and developing administrative systems. Billahl also served as Staff Governor at Park View School for 6 years and was a member of the Finance, Staff and Resources Committee. He holds a Degree in Humanities, Information Technology and Multimedia Technology and Application; and has undertaken several professional qualifications, including the Certificate in School Business Management, Prince2 and AAT.
Irfan is currently working as a Quantity Surveyor for Southwark Council. He has been involved in The Olive School, Hackney from the outset. The opportunity to help establish a primary school in which parents and the local community have a positive influence attracted Irfan to the proposal.
As a local construction professional with over 5 years’ experience, the importance of an excellent education, has allowed him to continue exerting his efforts for the success of the school. He hopes that his experience as a Surveyor will assist the school in the construction of the new site.
Farhana is a Governor of The Olive School, Hackney and currently employed as a senior leader within the Ihsan Children’s Centre, overseeing the day-to-day operational tasks of the organisation and working to develop services in line with – and ahead of – national standards. She manages a team of full and part-time staff and leads on staff recruitment within the children’s centre. She is a qualified teacher, has taught the EYFS, FSP and National Curriculum frameworks, and brings her extensive experience of early years and school-based teaching to the Olive School, Hackney from having worked in over 7 different London Boroughs. She trained under the intensive GTP (Graduate Teacher Program) route and is skilled in behaviour management techniques as a result of working in some of the most challenging boroughs in Inner City London. She initiated, developed and led the first Muslim female-only youth team in Hackney (in collaboration with a partnership male team under the NLMCC). She also works with women and children in need, counselling victims of domestic violence and providing guidance on housing, financial aid, and how to apply for school places, as well as making referrals for children identified with developmental needs. She holds a BSC degree in Psychology, providing a valuable insight into child development. She is a recognised member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a registered member of the General Teaching Council (GTC).
Shaheda is a qualified Phlebotomist who works as a specialized clinical support worker for the NHS. She has been involved in the Health and Education sector for over a decade and has extensive experience of community relations. Shaheda is passionate about joining the Governing Body of the Olive School, Hackney because she feels strongly about standards and the quality of provision for young children. She wishes to be part of the success and journey of the school.
Caterina Park (Principal)
Caterina Park is the Principal of the Olive School Hackney in London. Caterina has been working in education for 20 years and has been part of senior leadership for the past 10 years. She has worked in a variety of inner city schools both in the UK and in UAE.
Having previously worked as an artist and illustrator, Caterina found her vocation in teaching and learning and has held a variety of positions in schools, from class teacher, phase leader, Acting Headteacher and now substantive Principal.
Caterina’s passion for education comes from a deeply rooted belief that all children should have access to the same opportunities whatever their background or circumstances and can now fulfil this ambition at the Olive School Hackney.
