Holocaust Memorial Day

The Olive School Hackney marked Holocaust Memorial Day today by releasing white balloons with messages from children including ‘peace’, ‘love’, ‘mercy’, ‘forgiveness’, and ‘hope.’ Deputy Principal, Mrs Ramjan lead an age-appropriate assembly on the topic which focussed on why it is important to care and respect one another. Holocaust Memorial Day is a national commemoration day in the United Kingdom dedicated to the remembrance of those who suffered in The Holocaust, and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. In the UK, it takes place every year on Wednesday 27th January. The theme for this year is ‘Don’t Stand By’ and asks everyone to consider their personal responsibility not to be a bystander to persecution and genocide.
