School choirs in tune for Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony
Our school choir is joining forces with a neighbouring school to share a message of hope at the London Borough of Hackney’s Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony.
We have been rehearsing with the choir from Simon Marks Jewish Primary School since the new year to polish our harmonies for a performance of the Michael Jackson song Heal The World.
The choral performance will form part of the Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony in Hackney Town Hall on Monday 29 January. Hosted by the Speaker of Hackney Councillor Soraya Adejare, the ceremony will also include readings and the lighting of candles.
Our two schools already have links, through the Three Faiths Forum, and have previously worked together on a variety of projects to help the children build friendships.
Our Principal Caterina Park said, “Pupils in our school choir have enjoyed learning a new song with their friends at Simon Marks. The ceremony provides a timely opportunity for us to come together with a message of love and brighter futures. I’m very much looking forward to watching their performance.”
Ms Gulcan Metin Asdoyuran, Headteacher of Simon Marks Jewish Primary School, added, “This has been a wonderful opportunity for pupils to visit both schools, further develop cultural bonds and join together in a song about hope and healing the world.”
