Pupils show off their pedal power

Pupils got on their bikes as they joined 1,000 children from more than 40 schools across Hackney for the ninth annual Bike Around the Borough event.

They gathered at Hackney Downs before taking to the streets for the mass bike ride to Clissold Park, before heading on to London Fields, past Hackney Town Hall and back to Hackney Downs.

Following the ride, there was a celebration at Hackney Downs, with food, drink and cycling-themed activities.

Bike Around the Borough aims to promote cycling among Hackney school children, giving them the chance to practice the skills they have learned through national standards cycle training and to help them see how easy it is to travel around the area by bike.

Principal Caterina Park said:

“It was fantastic to see the pupils getting out into the fresh air and enjoying such a healthy, fun activity by exploring their community on bikes.”
