Pupils spread goodwill with winter charity drive

Pupils and staff at The Olive School, Hackney have been taking part in a special charity drive to spread joy to near neighbours as well as help people facing hardship during the festive season.

Caring pupils raised money to purchase gifts to create hampers and presents that will be presented to local residents. The gifts that will be presented by the school’s pupil council will be accompanied by special messages of love, hope and joy that have been written by pupils at the school.

Generous families and staff have also helped to fill the school with mountains of food for local foodbanks. The donations will help ensure that local residents and families suffering food poverty will receive support during the long winter months.

Babar Mirza, Principal at The Olive School, Hackney, praised pupils, parents and staff for their generosity and enthusiasm for helping others.  He said:

“We are incredibly fortunate to be part of a very special community of pupils, parents and staff and our whole school benefits from these relationships. Our Winter Gift Programme is a way for us to really show pupils how their small acts of kindness can help to spread joy to people in need. The campaign provides an opportunity to strengthen our connections in the community and reinforce our position as a school that sits at the very heart of the community it serves.”

The annual Winter Gift Programme is part of a wider programme of giving and thanks that takes place across the 30 schools that are all part of the Star Academies multi-academy trust.
